Getting ready for “Winter”

Yes I said the “W” word, the one we hate to say b/c if we say it too load it’ll be here quicker than we want it

Winter. Ok, I said it again. Don’t get me wrong winter is a good time of year. As long as there isn’t too much snow & if there is snow it just sticks to the grass & the trees. As long as there isn’t any ice on the roads, again it can stick to the grass & the trees all it wants. It is a pretty time of year, winter. But it is also cold & dreary & you have to keep the windows closed for what seems like forever (actually about 6 – 7 months, or even longer, depending on where you live.

My favorite time of year, yup you guessed it….SUMMER….that’s right. The only time of year you can walk around w/o shoes & socks on, wear flip flops to your hearts content, have the windows open 24/7 if you want to.

But seeing as summer is almost over, well the kids have already gone back to school so technically summer is over (I have one starting preschool in a couple of weeks & the other will be there in a couple of years) I guess it’s time to think about winter (ooooppppssss I said it again lol) & things I can do & get done now before it’s too cold out to do any of it.

So I’ve come up w/a list of things I need to do before the pretty white stuff starts to fall.

Here we go (these are in no particular order):

1. Bring in all outside furniture
2. Stock up on the following: canned soup, chicken, tuna, bread, non cook/bake items (in case we loose power), sauce, canned tomatoes, batteries (for flash lights & radio), TP (can never have enough of this & if you stock up now then when the rest of the world is running around in the crappy weather b/c they don’t have TP you’ll be thankful that you stocked up now & can sit at home w/a nice hot cup of your favorite beverage (white hot chocolate anyone!), bottled water/juices (again for when power goes out. we have well water so we’ll be glad that we have extra water on hand), diapers, & wipes
3. get the heaters set up & dusted off after being in the barn all summer
4. make sure all the blankets are cleaned & at the ready for those cold dog days of winter (I so wanted to say SUMMER LOL)
5. tie up outside hoses & store in barn
6. buy salt for the stairs when they get icy
7. either buy candles & long lighters or camping lamps for when the power goes out
8. put the storm windows down (uuuugggghhhh hate this part)
9. buy light blocking curtains (I got some last year for the girls room & they work great & really keep the light/cold out).

Wow that’s a lot to do. I’m sure I’m forgetting something if not a lot of things but this is a good list to get me started.

What are some of the things you have to get done before “W” begins?

Thanks for reading….
